Elton John Cancels US Shows Due To Serious Illness

Elton John has cancelled his upcoming US shows.
The legendary singer-songwriter was due to play the first of a five-night run in Las Vegas on April 28 but issued a statement to say that he had contracted a "rare and potentially deadly" infection during his recent trip to South America, which resulted in him being admitted to intensive care.
A statement from John's management said (via the Guardian):
“During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection.
During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile he became violently ill. Upon returning to the UK, Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital.”
The artist added:
“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”
John is expected to continue with his summer run of UK arena, stadium and outdoor shows, which kicks off in Twickenham on June 3.
