Django Django have released a video for Marble Skies, the title track of their latest LP.
It was filmed in the Mojave Desert during the gaps between their Coachella performances. Speaking about it, the band's Dave Maclean commented:
“The idea for the the video came very early on to me when I first heard the rough demo that the rest of the band had worked on when I was in Scotland. I imagined the Scottish Highlands in crisp black and white with a dramatic sky rolling passed Vinny as he sang. The look was partly inspired by the photographs of Man Ray. I’d been looking at a book of his that week when I first heard the track. We swapped the Scottish highlands for the Mojave Desert when we realised we had a week there between two Coachella dates and the vast dramatic landscape provided the perfect backdrop.”
Director Jed Hart added:
“I found the simple premise of the band on some form of pilgrimage through this barren, empty landscape both enigmatic and enthralling. I approached the project as much like a short film shoot as a video. Rather than bombarding the viewer with imagery, I wanted to gradually immerse them in the landscape and the band’s journey.
It was certainly a challenging shoot that, despite its narrative simplicity, took us a long way off the beaten track into the Californian desert and required drones, fire, rain and a lot of trekking, all in tough and hot conditions. What you get on screen in return is something that’s authentic.”
The video is an Apple Exclusive that you can watch here. Head below for the song.
The band have a busy summer of festival appearances ahead, including UK stops at Standon Calling, Bestival and Festival No.6, among others.
