Supergroup Deadland Ritual have premiered their debut song, Down In Flames.
The line up comprises of Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler, vocalist Franky Perez of Apocalyptica, drummer Matt Sorum of Scars of Broadway, Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, and guitarist Steve Stevens from Billy Idol's backing band.
The band is the brainchild of Sorum, who drew inspiration from the symbolism of desert badlands paired with his love of the idea of a "ritualistic forgotten space," which felt appropriate for the darker tone of the music he wanted to make. "Not the typical songs you would expect," according to the drummer.
Butler admits there was a lot to think about when he got the invitation to join the band. "I had to get used to the idea of starting from scratch again, which is good," he said. "But I really liked the music I was hearing. It’s not your typical hard rock or metal stuff."
Down In Flames was produced by Greg Fidelman and provides a taste of what fans can expect in the coming months. With summer festival appearances booked and headline dates in the works, Deadland Ritual will use the time leading up to their tour to continue writing and recording. Catch them at Download festival in the UK and France's Hellfest in June.
