Huey Lewis And The News Sign Deal With BMG For First New Album In 18 Years

Tuesday, 22 January 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

Huey Lewis and the News are poised to return with their first new album in nearly two decades this spring.

The legendary '80s rock band have inked a deal with BMG for the long anticipated follow up to 2001's 'Plan B', with the new material marking the band's first since their titular track for the 2008 film Pineapple Express. As reported by Rolling Stone, Lewis confirmed the news in a statement:

"We're very excited about our new album, and honestly feel that it’s among our best work – we cannot wait to get it out to fans!

We’re equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a 'music-first' label precedes them admirably."

The announcement comes less than a year after Lewis and band were forced to cancel tour dates as the frontman was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, an inner ear disorder that causes severe disorientation and hearing loss. Fortunately, the condition hasnt stopped Lewis from recording music. In a social media post last spring, he explained:

"Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing. Although I can still hear a little, one on one and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing. The lower frequencies distort violently making it impossible to find pitch.

I’ve been to the House Ear Institute, the Stanford Ear Institute, and the Mayo Clinic, hoping to find an answer. The doctors believe I have Meniere’s disease and have agreed that I can’t perform until I improve. Therefore the only prudent thing to do is to cancel all future shows.

Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who’ve already bought tickets and were planning to come see us. I’m going to concentrate on getting better, and hope that one day soon I’ll be able to perform again."
