Craig Finn Announces Release Of New Solo Album 'I Need A New War', Streams Lead Single Blankets

Craig Finn has confirmed the release of the third in a trilogy of solo albums.
The Minnesota-bred singer-songwriter, also known for fronting the Hold Steady, will follow up to 2015's 'Faith In The Future' and 2017's 'We All Want The Same Things' with 'I Need A New War' on April 26.
The album once again finds Finn looking outward, at the world and its inhabitants, who are trying to navigate their way through somewhat unprecedented times, all the while looking for connections with others . He said:
"Going in, I saw this record as the third part of a trilogy. Thematically, this was the third group of songs that I had written about smaller moments - people trying to stay afloat in modern times, attempting to find connection, achieving tiny triumphs and frustrating let downs in their day to day lives."
His fourth solo LP overall was recorded alongside producer Josh Kaufman and engineer D. James Goodwin, both of whom worked with Finn on his previous solo releases. The album also features contributions from some of Finn's regular collaborators, including Kaufman, Stuart Bogie, Sam Kassirer, vocalists Annie Nero and Cassandra Jenkins, and drummer Joe Russo. Finn added:
"Perhaps forward motion is everything. The characters in the songs on this record, and the last two, are trying to keep up and keep their heads above water. They succeed or they don't, but their stories are the tales of their attempts at pushing ahead. And so, with my own push forward, I feel lucky and excited to be sharing these songs and stories."
The first song to be shared from the tracklist is Blankets, which Finn says is " about someone who has never gotten over a past love, and goes searching for her. But time is running out." Head below to stream it and view the album's cover art and tracklist.
Finn is currently touring Europe supporting Brian Fallon and will follow the release of 'I Need A New War' with his own North American and European shows this summer, though exact dates have not yet been announced.
