Kool and the Gang co-founder Ronald Bell has died aged 68.
His publicist confirmed he passed away at his home in the US Virgin Islands, though a cause of death was not disclosed. Since the announcement, a flood of tributes have appeared online from fellow musicians, including funk legend Nile Rodgers.
The Ohio native was a key member of the soul and pop-funk collective, and across an illustrious career released 23 albums with the group, the latest being a 2013 Christmas LP, 'Kool For The Holidays'.
Kool and the Gang were inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015 and are widely recognised for a wealth of hits. Bell co-wrote and composed many of their best-selling singles, including 1973's Jungle Boogie, 1980's Celebration, and Get Down On It, released in 1981.
