Andrew Lloyd Webber has announced the cast album for Cinderella.
With a full tracklist and artwork yet to be finalised, the release will arrive ahead of the rescheduled opening of the musical, which is set to premiere next year at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre on May 19, with previews from April 30. Tickets are on sale now.
Cast members recorded the collection remotely in March throughout the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, before moving to socially distanced studios across London later in the spring. In a statement, Webber explained:
"50 years ago I couldn't get Jesus Christ Superstar on stage as nobody wanted to produce it, so it appeared on record first. It's so strange to find history repeating itself half a century later with the album of the complete score of my new Cinderella. I can't get Cinderella on stage because I'm not allowed to, so I have gone back to my roots and recorded the album first."
The brand new production, which is set to be a reimagining of the classic fairytale, will star actress and influencer Carrie Hope Fletcher (pictured) in the titular role. Listen to Bad Cinderella, the first preview of the musical's score, below.
