Headstart marks the first offering of new material from the Hexham-born artist since her self-titled debut album, which landed in April 2019. The rollicking rock-pop number is a bluesy delight elevated by Bird's characteristic vocal. She said:
"Headstart came out of a trip I made to upstate New York at the beginning of the year. It’s quite a light-hearted song, about liking someone who just can’t see the signs, and releasing it feels like a way to give a bit of joy to the end of the year. It feels like community to me, and it makes me want to sing again."
The 23-year-old is set to headline London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in March 2021. The remaining tickets are on sale now.
