Warpaint are back with their first original music in five years, Lilys.
Co-produced and mixed by Sam Petts-Davies, the hypnotic groove arrives after featuring on the HBO series Made For Love.
Although the California band's members have dropped their own material over recent years, Lilys marks their first song together since 2016's third album 'Head's Up'. Singer and guitarist, Theresa Wayman said:
"This track started as an experiment. We were messing around with synth sounds and trying for something textural and almost atonal at times. It wasn’t intended to make its way to our album sessions. But after some mining and editing it became a really nice bed for a melody. It’s one of those things that just flows out without much thought. It’s so sweetly satisfying when that happens!"
Discussing its release with NME, she added: "The HBO show wanted to use it, and so that made us finish it faster. And then the label heard it and were like, 'Actually, we want to put this out not just have it be on the show.' It wasn’t like we started writing our album and were like, 'OK, this song is going to be the one we come out with,' but I’m happy that it’s the one leading the way. The song is asserting itself."
