Metallica's Kirk Hammett has announced his debut solo EP.

'Portals' will arrive on April 23 via Blackened Recordings and comprises four instrumental tracks recorded in locations across the world, including Los Angeles, Paris, and Oahu, with Hammett also serving as producer. He said:

"This music was created with what I describe as an Audio-Cinematic approach. They’re soundtracks to the movies in your mind."

Hammett co-penned two of the tracks, High Plains Drifter and The Incantation, with keyboardist Edwin Outwater, who also oversaw the orchestral players from the LA Philharmonic, and previously worked with Metallica on their S&M2 project. Drummers Jon Theodore and Abraham Laboriel, bassist Greg Fidelman, arranger Blake Neely, and Bob Rock also contribute to the EP.

Metallica, meanwhile, will take over the new state-of-the-art Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 25, joined by special guests Greta Van Fleet. The performance will mark the first stadium concert in the city.

In September 2021, they celebrated 30 years of their classic self-titled album, known as 'The Black Album', with a remastered reissue, along with 'The Metallica Blacklist', a 53-track covers compilation.

They'll also headline a series of European festivals, including Download Festival Germany, Prague Rocks and Madrid's Mad Cool Festival this summer.

'Portals' tracklist:

1. Maiden And The Monster
2. The Jinn
3. High Plains Drifter
4. The Incantation
