Kurt Vile has announced a new album.
The follow-up to 2018's 'Bottle It In' is called '(watch my moves)' and will arrive on April 15. The first single to be shared from the record is Like Exploding Stones, an experimental, laid-back indie-rock stream of consciousness that clocks in at over seven minutes. In a social media post, Vile said:
“Like Exploding Stones” was alchemy captured in the kv zone (OKV Central, Philly) at the start of a fateful reunion with the Violators in summer 2021. Yeah, those times were magic and we all knew it but I was still pleasantly shocked when Verve Records suggested it be the first single as well (hey, now I can go to outer space whenever I want, too, Neil!) Sheeeit! I got a million of em but this is a helluva start… so yas best to start opening up your minds for some BLOWIN …"
Discussing the musical contributions to the album, he continued: "Speakin of blowin: James Stewart of the Sun Ra Arkestra took it to the next level with tenor saxophone, why me lord? Thanks to band and crew, fam, friends and loved ones: jesse, Kyle, rob Laakso, James Stewart, philly engineers: Ted young, adam Langellotti … and to rob schnapf for mixin the hell out of it in LA and to Matt Schuessler for additional engineering… thanks to verve, rennie Jaffe, Suz, Awilda, Delphine and all my wild psychedelic friends who made this sweet cosmosis of a video possible (creds to follow). “I could go on forever, baby!”
The American singer-songwriter will support the new record with a world tour, with the US leg set to run throughout April, May and June, and the European leg scheduled for August and September. The latter will include newly announced headline shows in Bath, Leeds, Glasgow, Belfast and Dublin. Tickets for all dates go on general sale at 10am on February 18.
