Local Natives have shared a new song called Paradise.
Following Just Before The Morning and NYE, it provides another taster of the Los Angeles-based band's fifth album, 'Time Will Wait For No One', due out on July 7 via Loma Vista Recordings.
Moving and sombre, the vulnerable folksy track grapples with the pain of loss through lyrics written about the heartache frontman Kelcey Ayer and his wife experienced after multiple miscarriages. Another heavy theme is the California wildfire disasters. Ayer explained:
"Paradise deals with the reckoning after intense loss. The person in the song brings flowers over to someone’s house to help console them while they’re going through a disastrous event that’s still occurring. My wife and I suffered two losses while trying to have a baby over the last couple years. At the same time, California was being ravaged by wildfires. It felt like the world was coming apart. This song definitely helped me process that pain."
The John Congleton-produced LP marks the band's first record since 2019's 'Violet Street'. They'll support it with a summer North American tour, with Annika Bennett opening their East Coast dates and Paramore drummer Zac Farro's band HalfNoise supporting on the West Coast.
Ahead of the trek, they'll play a brace of hometown concerts at the Ford Theater in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their second LP, 'Hummingbird'.
