Sheryl Crow Releases Title Track Of New Album 'Evolution'

Friday, 12 January 2024 Written by Jon Stickler

Sheryl Crow has shared the title track of her upcoming studio album.

With 'Evolution' due out on March 29 via The Valory Music Group, the anthemic strings-laden song features a shredding guitar solo from Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, while lyrically it finds the singer-songwriter exploring artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity. In a statement, Crow said:

"Stephen Hawking worried that A.I. would replace humans. As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet — is A.I. going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties."

"I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to Mike Elizondo and said, this is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it?," she continued. "To me, Tom’s playing comes from some other planet. It’s a cool bit of kismet that we were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the same year, and his solo on Evolution just ejects you into space."

Recorded with producer Elizondo, it follows the record's previously unveiled cut Alarm Clock, which Crow shared an accompanying video for earlier this month.

The nine-time Grammy Award winner will perform at The Piece Hall in Halifax on June 13, as part of the Live At The Piece Hall series, prior to topping the bill at Black Deer Festival on June 15. Following that, she'll take to the stage at Hampton Court Palace Festival in London and Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire supporting Crowded House.

She'll also join Chris Stapleton at the country star's show in Seattle on July 27 as part of his All-American Road Show Tour, before a brace of gigs opening for Zach Bryan in Atlanta in August.

Sheryl Crow Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Thu June 13 2024 - HALIFAX Piece Hall
