The Black Keys have shared a new single called Beautiful People (Stay High).
The groovy track serves as the first taster of what's to come on the Grammy Award-winning American rock duo's new album, 'Ohio Players', out via Nonesuch on April 5.
Penned by Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, alongside Dan "The Automator" Nakamura and Beck, the song comes with a retro-style video mirroring the track's throwback rock and roll aesthetic. It shows off the dance moves of Derrick T. Tuggle, the security guard who appeared in the clip for the band's 2011 single Lonely Boy.
The record will feature contributions from other friends and colleagues, including Noel Gallagher and Greg Kurstin, among others. Auerbach said:
“No matter who we work with, it never feels like we're sacrificing who we are. It only feels like it adds some special flavor. We just expanded that palette with people we wanted to work with. We were there to support them and their ideas, to do whatever we could to see that moment flourish. But when it came time to finish the album, it was just Pat and me.
"We'd never worked harder to make a record. It's never taken us this long to make an album. We took our time and did it right.”
Ahead of the album's release of 'Ohio Players', a new documentary about the band, titled This Is a Film About the Black Keys, will receive its world premiere at the 2024 edition of South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March.
Directed by Jeff Dupre, the film looks at Auerbach and Carney's rise from kids jamming in an Ohio basement to the rock giants they are today.
