Arctic Monkeys have been announced as the winners of this years Nationwide Mercury Prize.
The Sheffield band were the bookies red-hot favourites, and the award this evening came as little surprise to most.
'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' was released earlier this year and instantly became the fastest selling debut in UK chart history.
The band fought off stiff competition from The Guillemots, Thom Yorke and Muse to the prestigious career defining award and £20,000 prize money.
Taking to the stage to accept the award, singer Alex Turner quipped "Someone call 999. Richard Hawley's just been robbed!"
The nominees in full were:
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad Of The Broken Sea
Editors - The Back Room
Guillemots - Through The Windowpane
Richard Hawley - Coles Corner
Hot Chip - The Warning
Muse - Black Holes And Revelations
Zoe Rahman - Melting Pot
Lou Rhodes - Beloved One
Scritti Politti - White Bread, Black Beer
Sway - This Is My Demo
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
