Fans that are tired of the X Factor stranglehold on the British Christmas Number One slot have started an internet campaign to place rap metal titans Rage Against the Machine at the top of the charts.
Rage Against the Machine temporarily reformed back in 2007 and played a series of massive shows. Now, two fans on social networking website Facebook, have set up a group set to propel the single ‘Killing In The Name’ to number one. A feeble attempt you may think but as of today the group has attracted over 78,000 members so far and that number is rapidly gathering momentum. The two fans have asked people to buy the track on December 13th, the same day that this years X Factor track becomes available.
Although not yet officially announced, a lot of reports have suggested that the winner of this years X Factor is set to release a cover of Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb’ as their Christmas single.
You may remember from last year when a similar campaign pushed late singer Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ to number two in the charts after fans offended by Alexandra Burke’s limp version mass-bought the original version.
Rage Against The Machine have not commented on the campaign to place them at number one as the metal giants are currently inactive as a band.
2009’s Christmas Number One single will be announced on December 20th.
