Kings of Leon Support Acts Announced for Hyde Park Show

Kings of Leon have announced the support acts for their huge sold out show in Hyde Park this summer.

Tennessee alt-rockers Kings of Leon will be joined on the bill by The Black Keys, The Drums, The Whigs & The Features for the outdoor show in London on Wednesday 30th June 2010.

The hugely successful band comprising of three brothers and a cousin, take their titles very seriously, producing country-laden rock’n’roll with elements of blues and boogie-woogie. Brought up in the Deep South and having spent the majority of their childhood travelling, the Kings of Leon have a deep, drawling, rootsy sound and a suitable legacy to match.

With the band recently announcing that they were set to release a follow-up to ‘Only By The Night’ this year, the Followill brothers plan was to finish touring duties and release the new record in the latter half on 2010.

"We're touring until the end of this year so we can't start until 2010 but it'll come out probably fall of 2010," guitarist Matthew Followill told BBC 6 Music. He added that the album may be "a little grungier" than previous efforts.

The main support act, The Black Keys, will be familiar to most music fans.

The Black Keys are an alternative rock duo from what is sometimes referred to as 'the Mecca of weirdness’, Akron, Ohio, USA. They gained inspiration for their name from a schizophrenic friend, who dubbed those he mistrusted or disliked as "The Black Keys".

Dan Auerbach vocalist and guitarist, and drummer Patrick Carney mix neighbouring Detroit punk rock with the more distant North Mississippi jukebox rock to create some slabs of low-fi, blues driven music that shuns bass and sounds all the more harder for it. Their music has gained them huge attention for the raw driving guitar sounds and howling vocals framed by the thunderous drums from Carney.

The Black Keys will be performing their own headline shows around the UK too. On June 23rd, the pair will perform at London’s Roundhouse, before returning for two more gigs in July, at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on the 8th and Manchester Academy on the 9th.

Their sixth studio album is also set for release later this year with final preparations being made for the album ‘Brothers’ to be released on May 17th. The duo’s last record was 2008’s ‘Attack & Release’.

The 55,000 tickets for the Kings of Leon gig sold out in record time last month, but fans can still get hold of tickets with our fan-to-fan exchange partners.
