The Modfather Paul Weller has spoken out about his feelings towards social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace, also criticising those people who use them.
Known as one of the most hardworking touring performers in British music, Paul Weller seems to care not for the ageing process. Rumoured to be engaged to a 24-year-old backing singer, the songwriter appears to have an endless amount of energy.
Recently releasing his brilliant new album ‘Wake Up The Nation’, the singer has criticised users of social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace. Speaking to The Independent newspaper, Paul Weller claimed that social networking sites are “bullshit” and also slated their users who “spend all evening” logged onto them.
He asked, “why not go down the pub? and went on to explain, “a guy once came up to me at a gig and asked me if I had a MySpace. I said, ‘This is my space, and you’re invading it’.”
Celebrating the release of the new album, Weller performed a one-off special show in London last week. Joining him on stage was former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher fresh from his recent gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of The Children’s Cancer Trust.
Giving his thoughts on the Oasis split, Paul Weller didn’t want to say much on the subject but argued that the Gallagher brothers were “going through the motions” before the split.
“I don’t want to talk out of turn because I love Noel and Liam” he said. “You can see when someone’s not happy. But I guess when you get to that sort of level and there’s big business involved, it’s harder to stop. I think ultimately it’ll be better for music and for their own creativity.”
