Tony Iommi is a guitarist, songwriter and producer from Birmingham best known as his role as founding member and lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. He was the band's primary composer and sole continual member for nearly five decades.
As a teenager, Iommi lost the tips of two fingers in an accident, to which doctors said he would never play again - but he created his own technique and went on to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time. With Sabbath, Iommi released 19 albums from 1970 to 2013, in addition to seven live albums and 13 compilations. As well as a prolific solo career of three albums between 2000 and 2005, he's also played with Jethro Tull, Heaven & Hell and Earth. Iommi has announced an evening of conversation in October, hosted by Phil Alexander.
