Cowell To Find 'World's Greatest DJs' In New Talent Show

X-Factor mogul Simon Cowell is now attempting to ply his trade on yet another side of the music industry – as he revealed his plans to launch another talent contest show, this time aimed at finding the ‘world’s greatest DJs’.

Cowell has seen the X-Factor decline recently, with the last live final receiving four million less views than the previous year and the winner’s single selling the lowest number of copies since the 2004 version of the show. So, Cowell’s already thought of a new way he can keep his talent-show franchise alive – with a DJ talent contest in the style of the X-Factor.

The new project, which Cowell will co-produced by Syco and Overbrook (a company owned by Will Smith and his wife Jada) will ‘comb the world’ in an attempt to find the ‘world’s greatest DJs’ – who Cowell thinks are “the new rockstars.”

“We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people,” Cowell told Music Week. “As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners. DJs are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show.”

As you can understand, though, fans, producers and of course DJs of electronic music are pretty much disgusted by the idea, and all over the internet, they’ve been making their thoughts known on the idea.

House and dubstep producer Roska wrote: “He wants to cash in on every aspect of music. #SadTimes,” while one of Sheffield’s biggest club night promoters Detonate simply wrote ‘Oh Dear...’. Drum and bass DJ Kooley described the show as ‘pure ridiculousness’, and continued on to ask: “More importantly WHO is gonna judge it? If it's David Guetta or Beyonce I will kill.” Cardiff-based club promoters CYNT added: “and Skrillex thinks he has haters?!....the winner of this is doomed before they've even entered.”

What are your thoughts on the new project – are you a fan of Cowell’s shows? Do you think the idea is ‘pure ridiculousness’? Let us know in the comment section below.
