Local Natives Soar To New Heights With 'Airplanes'

The Local Natives debut album Gorilla Manor is a wonderful collection of guitar hooks and layered percussion, warmly draped in lovely melodies and singer Taylor Rice’s tender voice. And latest single Airplanes is without doubt one of the strongest tracks from that album.

It drips at the sides with love and loss, as a missed grandfather is remembered with a touching tenderness. The cascading guitars and catchy piano keys soar and swirl, whipping something inside to attention, while calmly enforcing a warm familiarity. A feeling that is successfully achieved by following fellow American’s Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend in sound and arrangement. Their memorable guitar hooks and three strong melodies are enough to make even the most serious soul smile.

With a March 1st release and plenty of radio play already, the Local Natives have something to be proud of in Airplanes. Not only is it a song of quality and note, it also comes packed with sincerity and sweet insight.

Stereoboard Rating - 5/5.
