Mondkopf is an electronic producer from France who has remixed works by such artists as Golden Filter, Grand National, Johnny Cash and Pony Pony Run Run, who we reviewed earlier this week. His sound is intense, electrifying and has Ibiza dance floor written all over it. I am assured his live sets are astounding, which we will have chance to witness when he brings his performances to the UK very soon.
This release, Deaf House, is a 4 track EP, filled with electronic mastery, trance rhythms and deep, intense bass. It is a collection of huge, fantastically well produced dance tracks that send you on a euphoric trip. Watch out for Mondkopf, I am sure some of his tracks will be making their way onto DJ sets in nightclubs all over the globe.
Deaf House, the EP’s first track is a huge electronic parade of massive bass, catchy drum machine beats and intense trance chords. Purely musical, with no vocals at all it is a massive dance track, full of tension, euphoria and creativity. The track highlights what one man and some very clever pieces of digital equipment can produce, this is a huge track, if you heard this in a club, you would literally, get lost in the music.
Werewolf Theme, keeps the insensitivity going, strong, low tempo drum machine beats, haunting background cries, more bass then a subwoofer could possibly take and masses of electro beats, to satisfy. The sound is deep and quite nostalgic of the electro sounds eighties artists where producing. Another huge dance track, which quickens your heart rate and puts your mind at ease.
Legacy, is much darker in sound, it builds and builds progressively, with drum machine beats and electro rhythms but never really builds to anything. A bit weak really considering the rest of the EP, but still a very well produced dance track, with lots of clever sampling and digital trickery.
Eclipse is chilling; the haunting cries at the beginning of the track and sudden building of electro organ behind huge drops of electronic crashes are massively intense. It’s almost like an over done prog rock track, only it is superb. The production is absolutely amazing, but then nothing, you let the tension build and build and you wait and wait, imagining a huge trance section or electro rhythm will kick in any second, and then nothing, emptiness, an anti climax.
This EP demonstrates Mondkopf’s awesome production skills and the potential he has as a dance music producer, the first track is awe inspiring, the second, brilliant, unfortunately the last two are not so magnificent, but take nothing away from them they demonstrate a huge talent.
I can see Mondkopf becoming a big name in the industry; let’s hope so anyway, for the sake of dance music.
