Oh God do I love this song. Although it reminds me (in a good way!) of the ‘Call Of The Yeti’ song from the Mighty Boosh, I’m assuming that London-based singer/songwriter Victoria Hume is going for something a bit more profound.
She describes ‘Numbers’ as a song about "getting trapped in a loop of repetitive actions, out of an irrational belief that will prevent or undo disasters, and then about the occasional moments of clarity that come when you give up control." If that sounds a little bit confusing, then give the song a listen.
Hume has managed to create a piece of music that beautifully captures the exact mood of daydreaming, procrastination and repetition, broken up by Hume demanding "I’ve got to snap out of this..."
The twanging, minimalist guitars and beautiful, dreamy, hypnotic vocals make this a real headphone experience. Even the accompanying music video captures the song’s energy completely, as the song plays whilst the camera stares out of a moving train window. I can’t recommend this tune enough.
'Numbers' is out now, get lost in its minimalism.
