Lil Nas X Posts Video For New Song Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

Friday, 26 March 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Lil Nas X has dropped his first single of 2021.

Montero (Call Me By Your Name) was produced by Take A Daytrip, Omer Fedi and Roy Enzo, and arrives with a head-spinning CGI-assisted video co-directed by Tanu Muino.

Driven by a loop of Spanish guitar, bass and light percussion, the track is accompanied by a letter the Georgia 21-year-old has written to his 14-year-old self about the provocative clip:

"Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it. It's about a guy I met last summer. I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be "that" type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.

You see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. Sending you love from the future."

The song is the rapper's first release since his 2020 festive song Holiday. His debut EP, meanwhile, landed in 2019.
