The upbeat, heartfelt track unfurls around bright piano lines and hurried percussion before delivering an earworm chorus. Its the first new music from the singer-songwriter since the release of her 2021 Mercury Prize-winning LP, 'Collapsed In Sunbeams'.
It arrives ahead of her North American tour with Clairo, and comes paired with a video directed by Zhang and Knight. Parks said:
"Softly is a song about yearning, about how fragile you feel in the dying days of a relationship when you’re still desperately in love. The song is about how it feels to brace yourself before the blow of a break up and reminisce about the days where it all felt luminous."
Parks will also headline a London show in July as part of the Somerset House Summer Series. Tickets are on sale now.
