PinkPantheress’s rise has been nothing if not rapid. In the span of a couple of years the 22-year-old has gone from anonymously posting mixes on social media to a couple of million TikTok followers and monthly streaming stats in the same ballpark. Her debut album ‘Heaven Knows’ is perfectly pitched to continue that momentum.

This is a collection of Y2K-inspired hyper-pop tracks that show an almost unbelievable amount of promise. Opener Another Life sets the overall mood for the album, with ominous organ tones quickly matched with rapid beats and nonchalant words that drily deliver a message to a former lover.  Nigerian rapper Rema’s verse then takes the track to another dimension.

Lead single Mosquito discusses the grip capitalism has on society, speaking on heavy topics over a light-hearted, bubblegum pink musical backdrop. Mura Masa’s production fuses drum and bass elements with early noughties R&B, with Pink’s vocals gliding.

Internet Baby showcases the various challenges that accompany online fame, pushing back against fans who are constantly asking her to release her demos, asserting that she is not to be known as their “internet girlfriend”. Feelings operates in a similar space as she addresses social media comments, candidly wondering if she is “peaking too early”.

Known for songs that are usually short and sweet, Capable of Love sees PinkPantheress take her time while delving into her fears of losing everything in a romantic relationship. It’s powerful and introspective, showing her willingness to take risks in her music while showcasing her depth as a songwriter.

Taking listeners on a journey into her personal life, navigating the challenges of fame, romance, and capitalism, ‘Heaven Knows’ is a triumph that feels like both a throwback to the early 2000s and a record rooted in the present. It’s confident, melodic and unique.
