Björk And Rosalía Release New Benefit Single Oral

Tuesday, 21 November 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

Björk and Rosalía have shared a collaborative single, Oral.

Arriving a little over a month after they first announced it, the dancehall-inspired track was co-produced by the two vocalists with Sega Bodega.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the Icelandic musical icon revealed that it was written between her 1997 album 'Homogenic' and 2001's 'Vespertine', and was recently rediscovered after the original tapes were lost for two decades.

The two artists will donate the proceeds of the single to the non-profit organisation AEGIS, which supports the legal fight over excessive fish farming in Björk's home country. On Instagram, she wrote:

"This is a 25-year-old song of mine that I wrote and programmed inspired by a dancehall beat (the grandmother of reggaeton).

"Rosalia´s experiments with the genre and her incredible voice made her an obvious guest for the song.

"I feel blessed she said yes and she and her team are giving their work and all the profits to this battle.

"I think somehow there is an elegant resonance between the fact that both of our voices are the same age on the recording."

Björk released her most recent album, 'Fossora', in 2022 and is currently on the road in Europe with her Cornucopia Tour. In March, she remixed Shygirl's track Woe for 'Nymph_o', the deluxe edition of the London-based rapper's 2022 album 'Nymph'. Rosalía’s latest release is her summer single Tuya.
