Ash reach the letter V with Carnal Love, as the groups A to Z series draws near to the end. With a single released every two weeks by the group, each catalogued by a letter of the alphabet, the group will have recorded almost 3 albums worth of material in 2 years.
With Festival sets upcoming at Reading and Leeds on the 27th and 28th August and a recent summer tour, the group, who were 90’s Brit Pop sensations continue at a pace, pleasing their loyal army of fans.
Part 1 of the A to Z series is available now as a limited edition CD/DVD and this latest single, Carnal Love will be available from August 2nd.
Ash shot to fame in the 90’s with their approachable mix of indie rock and pop. Hits such as Oh Yeah and Burn Baby Burn helped media and fans alike tag them into the Brit Pop scene of the time with the track 'Girl From Mars'. Since then the group have returned to their original 3 piece line up with Tim Wheeler on guitar and vocals, Mark Hamilton playing bass and Rick McMurray on drums.
This single Carnal Love is not Ash at their indie rock best, instead it is an infectious melody of swooping riffs and hooks, blazing drums and Tim Wheeler’s voice at its absolute crooning best. Ash have used this A to Z series and the freedom of owning their own recording studios in New York, to experiment a little, more mellow in sound, the group continue to evolve and provide justification for their longevity in the music business.
As Tim’s guitar swoops up and down with metallic hooks and large riffs, Mark blasts his bass notes underneath, backing up Tim’s sound with his lovely high strings. Rick’s drumming is as usual top notch as he blazes over skin and symbol and sets the wonderful catchy pace that this track follows.
It is Tim’s voice that makes this track though, all truly great rock groups need a truly great lead singer and Tim’s voice is undoubtedly great and youthful still even after nearly 2 decades in the industry. Indeed Ash too sound new and fresh, the way they have reinvented themselves, both by the way they construct their sounds and also the subtle production used when recording, it is little wonder they are still going strong and headlining festival stages.
