The Pretenders have announced their 14th studio album.
Produced by David Wrench and recorded at Battery Studios in West London, 'Relentless' is scheduled to arrive on September 1 via Parlophone. It features 12 new songs co-written by the iconic Chrissie Hynde and Pretenders' guitarist James Walbourne. Commenting on the partnership, Hynde said:
"We had developed this method of working remotely and it seemed like we just kept on doing it for this album. This is something that we’ve honed down to an art in the last few years. He always comes up with something I wouldn’t have thought of myself and I love surprises."
As a preview, head below to stream their new single, Let The Sun Come In, which finds Hynde's smooth vocals front and centre, over some rocking, raucous yet melodic guitar work. Hynde said of the album title: "I enjoy seeing the various meanings and origins of a word. And I liked the definition: “showing no abatement of intensity”. It’s the life of the artist. You never retire. You become relentless."
The news comes ahead of the group's special showcase set at The Great Escape in Brighton this weekend, and a run of UK and Ireland club shows. Following that, they'll join Guns N' Roses for a tour across Europe, which includes a set at London's BST Hyde Park.
